Downtown Minneapolis may get a new food hall

The former Rock Bottom Brewery space at LaSalle Plaza downtown could soon become a large new food hall. The project is being developed by the team behind Malcolm Yards and would fill a big vacant retail space while adding multiple food vendors in one location.

If plans stay on track, the food hall could open in 2026 and become another draw for downtown office workers and event crowds. Local leaders hope projects like this help rebuild foot traffic and energy in the downtown core.

Food Scene Brief:

One of Minneapolis’ most famous restaurants is moving

Owamni current location at the Stone Arch Bridge

Acclaimed Indigenous restaurant Owamni is planning a move to a new home inside the Guthrie Theater along the Mississippi River.

The relocation (a short move just a block down the River Rd) will nearly double the restaurant’s seating capacity and allow expanded offerings like pre-theater bites and later hours for show crowds. Chef Sean Sherman says the move will also create dozens of jobs and continue the restaurant’s mission of highlighting Indigenous ingredients and food traditions.
